Steve nicholls -

Hi my name is Steve and I am one of the three trainers here at Hudds K9.

I started training dogs at the age of 14, this was with my GSD called Winston. Since then I have had many dogs nearly all GSD'S but 1 was a border collie.

At the age of 20 I joined H.M.Prison service as an officer and shortly after joining I was selected to specialize in dog handling. I was the youngest dog handler to have ever been recruited at that time and was also still in my probation period. During my 17 years service I handled 2 German shepherd dogs, Ben and Mack and a border collie called Bess. My employment allowed me to specialize in training and operating dogs that could detect Explosives, Firearms and drugs. I had an extra interest in the training of dogs and handlers and became the local training coordinator for my establishment having the responsibility to maintain the training standards.

I did secure funding from my employer to attend external training courses and gained a full membership with a first grade from the British Institute of Professional dog trainers.

During my career I regularly competed with my service dog and on two occasions qualified as a National prison service dog trials finalist. On the first occasion in 1998 I was awarded a trophy by the judges for carrying out the exercises in the most professional manner.

Unfortunately a few years ago Mack died and has been missed by all that knew him.... even the villains!

I was very active with my Working dogs, regularly attending fetes and galas, schools and other locations giving demonstrations and talks.

Mack was the demo dog at training classes that I had started teaching pet dog owners how to have a well behaved pet.

In 2003 I started a dog training business called Huddersfield K9 training that has recently changed slightly, now being called Huddersfield K9 training group this brings on board 2 fantastic female instructors with a wealth of knowledge,interest, experience and fun.

Over the last 6 years or so Hudds K9 has had in excess of 2000 dogs and owners come through the training process and have experienced the Hudds K9 training methods of getting a well behaved family pet.

We are regarded as the "Professional dog training class" in the Huddersfield area and have constant referrals from local vets.

I HAVE IN EXCESS OF 29 YEARS OF BOTH WORKING AND TEACHING OTHERS.
